On April 24, 2006, Iona College celebrated National Student-Athlete Day in recognition of excellence in the classroom, on the field of play, and in the community.
National Student-Athlete Day was created by the National Consortium for Academics and Sports and the Northeastern University Center for the Study of Sport in Society, with partnership from the NCAA and the National Federation of State High School Associations. NCAA involvement began in 1994.
During this yearís event awards were presented for Male and Female Strength and Conditioning Student-Athlete of the Year, Academic Student-Athlete of the Year, and Gael of the Year in each sport. Those selected as a Gael of the Year were honored for embodying the mission of the day, the NCAA, and Iona Athletics. Below are pictures of the event and the award winners. This annual event allows the Iona athletic department and coaching staff to honor the student-athletes for all that they have accomplished in the year.
