Iona College Director of Athletics Rick Cole Jr. announced the appointment of Sean Burke as head coach of the golf program in Aug. 2015. Burke, who competed for three seasons on the University of Scranton golf team, also serves as Iona’s Assistant Athletic Director of Business.
In his first full season at the helm of the program, Burke led the Gaels to a fourth place finish at the MAAC Tournament. Freshman Paolo Matti earned MAAC Rookie of the Year honors. Alex Anderson and Stefan Cygan were recognized as MAAC All-Academic Team Member.
Burke has run demo events for TaylorMade at golf courses around the Northeast region in addition to being a caddie for 15 years at both Rockland Country Club and Manhattan Woods Golf Club. Burke also serves as a junior golf instructor at Blue Hill Golf Club and Rockland Country Club.
Burke has served as the outing director for the Johnny Burke Memorial Outing, where raises money to benefit Livestrong and Pancan. Burke is a member of the Blue Hill Golf Association and MGA.
Burke graduated from Scranton in 2003 with a bachelor’s of science in international business. In addition, he holds a masters in sports business management from Manhattanville College.
