Iona College softball head coach Melissa Inouye has announced that former Gael standout and recent graduate Katie Jansson has joined her coaching staff for the upcoming 2016-17 season.
"I'm very excited to welcome Katie back to Iona and to my coaching staff. She was a talented student-athlete and one of the program's most competitive and passionate players. Katie knows what it takes to be successful on and off the field as she was a part of three MAAC Championships and NCAA Regional appearances,” coach Inouye states. She continues; “As a proud Iona alum, she is very familiar with the program and will be a positive asset for us with recruiting. I look forward to having Katie work with our student-athletes and share her knowledge of the game and championship experiences. "
On joining the Gaels, Katie mentioned that she is “extremely excited about returning to Iona and the softball program.” She continued, “I want to thank Coach Inouye for the opportunity to return to my alma mater, and I am very excited for the upcoming season and working with the amazing student athletes at Iona College."
Following her graduation from Iona in 2014, Katie served as a Graduate Assistant Softball Coach for Manhattanville College. There she was responsible for assisting the head coach with day-to-day activities such as practice planning, instruction, game planning, and recruiting.

Katie also leant her talents to various camps and clinics, including programs put on by Iona College, Princeton University, the South Brunswick Athletic Association, and Kutztown University. She has given her experience in the field, in the batter’s box, and behind-the-plate in a various number of ways, diversifying her tutelage experience in a short amount of time.
While a student-athlete at Iona, Katie was a three-time All-Academic performer, playing in 199 career games, making 517 career plate appearances, each of which rank top 10 in Iona College softball program history. Her 16homeruns rank tenth all-time, and her 79 runs batted in currently places her ninth in the record book.
Katie manned the plate for the Gaels while they won three MAAC Championships in a span of her four years. She acted as an architect working in tandem with Sarah Jackson and Alyssa Maiese, two of the most dominant pitchers to ever set foot on the rubber for the Maroon & Gold.
Katie graduated from Iona with a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Language Pathology, and earned a Master of Science in Sports Business Management while at Manhattanville last season.
