Pat McWalters was named Assistant Athletic Director of Communications on Monday, November 21, 2016. His responsibilities include overseeing the promotion and publicity of all 21 of Iona’s athletic programs alongside Senior Associate Athletic Director Brian Beyrer and under the direction of Rick Cole Jr., Director of Athletics.
The Long Island native spent the past two and half years as the Coordinator of Sports Information at Adelphi University, overseeing the media relation's efforts for 23 NCAA Division II programs. During his time, McWalters served as NCAA Division II Tournament Director for the 2015 Men's and Women's NCAA Tournament Quarterifnal games. He also helped redesign AUPanthers.com during the summer of 2014 through the internet provider Sidearm Sports in addition to increasing the audience for all of the Panthers’ social media channels including the creation of the AUPanthers Snapchat.
While in Garden City, McWalters was the primary contact for the men's and women's soccer programs that each won Northeast-10 Conference Championships while advancing to the NCAA Tournament in two straight years (2015-16). He additionally held primary responsibilities with the men's basketball program as well as the baseball, cross country and track and field teams.
McWalters spent the previous two years in the same capacity at The College of Saint Rose, working as the Golden Knights’ Coordinator of Athletics Communications under the direction of Assistant Athletic Director for Communications David Alexander. During his time at his alma mater Saint Rose, McWalters helped with all of the school’s internal and external communications efforts and was the primary contact for women’s volleyball, men’s golf, women’s tennis, women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s track and field, and softball.
McWalters earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Saint Rose in 2010 and completed his master's in business administration from LIU-Post University (formerly C.W. Post) in 2012.
During his two year stint at LIU Post, McWalters served as a graduate assistant in the Athletic Media Relations office and worked with all of the school's 15 NCAA Division II programs, while serving as the primary media contact for the women's volleyball, men's and women's cross country, women's tennis, and women's swimming teams. He also helped host NCAA Regional Tournaments in the sports of softball and men's and women's lacrosse, and assisted with media operations pertaining to the school's first nationally televised men's basketball contest, broadcasted on the CBS Sports Network.
McWalters gained additional experience in the field of media relations as an intern with the New York Lizards of Major League Lacrosse (formerly Long Island Lizards) and the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League. He also volunteered as a basketball statistician during his undergraduate years at Saint Rose.
