Gaels Walk to Cure Diabetes
Empire City at Yonkers Raceway longtime general manager Bob Galterio’s daughter Cara was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at age 10, and the Bedford resident immediately was compelled to take action to fight the disease.
The Westchester County Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) annual Walk to Cure Diabetes was held at Empire City at Yonkers Raceway. On October 16 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon over 2,500 walkers representing local corporations, families, schools, and other organizations participated.
This year the Iona College baseball team helped the cause by walking over two miles around the track. Not to mention enjoying the day by participating in games, food and listening to music from a live cover band. When the day was over the Gaels even lent a helping hand by cleaning up after the festivities.
