STONY BROOK, NY - The Iona College baseball team dropped a 10-3 decision to Stony Brook in non-conference action at Stony Brook Field. Leading 2-1 after three and a half innings, the Gaels surrendered nine runs in the fourth and sixth innings in the defeat.
The Gaels took their lone lead of the contest in the fourth inning on senior LF Colin Lyall's fourth home run of the season. Lyall's two-run shot also scored senior 1B Michael Chiaravalloti who drew a one-out walk.
Iona tallied its third run in the ninth on a fielder's choice off the bat of rookie PH Matt Hratko.
Senior 2B Eric Capowski's 2-for-4 day was the squad's lone multiple hit effort.
Rookie RHP Rob Ambrosino took the loss, tossing two innings in relief. Freshman LHP John Nargoski - fresh off his first collegiate save on Saturday - pitched the first three innings allowing a run on three hits with a walk and a strikeout while getting some midweek work.
The Gaels are back in action tomorrow at Hartford, completing a 10-game road trip before returning home to face Niagara in a three-game series this weekend at Salesian Field.
