NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College baseball team dropped its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference series finale to Niagara 17-8 at Salesian Field. After rallying to knot the score at 8-8 in the bottom of the sixth, the Gaels surrendered nine unanswered runs in the final three innings in the loss.

Iona pounded 12 hits in the contest.  Senior 3B Chris Burke went 3-for-4 with a run scored and four RBI.  He also recorded his 11th double of the season.  Sophomore CF Joe Torres and rookie DH Jimmy Guiliano each went 2-for-3 with three runs scored in the loss.  Senior 1B Michael Chiaravalloti drove in two runs for the Gaels.

Senior RHP Derrick Bligh took the loss in relief. After getting two out in the decisive top of the seventh, an Iona error extended the inning and led to three Niagara tallies.

The Gaels are back in action on Tuesday at Fordham.
