Rowing Competes In the Spring Metropolitan Champs

New Rochelle, NY – The Iona College men’s and women’s rowing teams competed in the 2012 Spring Metropolitan Championships at Glen Island over the weekend.

In the women’s novice 8 the crew of  freshmen Rebeca Silva, Amanda Boyle, Elizabeth Dellinger, Olivia Sage, Savannah Lang, Victoria Baio, Mary Cain, Kara Urso, and Nicole Tobin took home a third place finish behind Fairfield and Army.

In the women’s pair of junior Jennifer Kearns and sophomore Amanda Kenny took second with a time of 9:23.6 finishing one second behind Maritime.

The women’s varsity 8 of senior Victoria Geiter and junior Chrisanne Karcich, Kearns, sophomores Elizabeth Morse and Ashley Tomblin, Kenny and freshmen Boyle, Dellinger, Tobin finished fifth.

The men rowed in the Novice 4, Novice 8, Men’s Pair, Men’s Varsity 4’s A and B, and Varsity 8.

The men’s novice 4+ of freshmen Frederick Carter, Robert Strobel, Ryan Harding, Nick Adams, and Thomas Baik finished second in their heat behind USMMA. The men rowed the finals in the afternoon and placed fifth. 

The men’s novice 8+ of Cara Scriven, Strobel, Harding, Adams, Baik, Carter, Nick Bortells, Matthew Buchanan, Andrew Serino, and took third  in their heat advancing to the finals where they placed sixth.

The men’s pair of Buchanan and Serino placed third in their heat, finishing only .8 seconds behind Dowling.

The men’s varsity A 4+ of sophomore Christopher Palma, Evan Johnson, Derek Krautkremer, and Greg Badura and Karcich finished second in their heat behind Dowling. In the finals they finished sixth.

The men’s varsity B 4+ crew of Scriven, Rourke, Daly, Bortells, and sophomore Richard Buchheit took third in their heat behind Fairfield and Army A.

The men finished the day strong in the Varsity men’s 8+ of Karcich, Rourke, Daly, Bortells, sophomore Ernie Stinebrickner, Johnson, Krautkremer, Badura and Buchheit took second overall just behind Army. 

The men’s and women’s teams will travel to Lake Mercer, NJ this weekend for the MAAC championship held on Mercer County Lake.
