Iona College men's soccer head coach Fernando Barboto announced the appointment of Marcos Monteagudo as an assistant coach for the 2012 season. Monteagudo is a 2006 graduate of Iona, a four-year men's soccer letterwinner and team captain during his senior season.

"Marcos brings unequalled passion to this program along with care for his alma mater," said Barboto. "He has an amazing eye for talent; we are lucky to have such a coach!"

Monteagudo joins the Iona College staff after serving as head coach of the boy's soccer team at nearby Iona Prep. He led the Gaels to three consecutive division championships from 2009-11, in addition to a city championship in 2010 and a state championship in 2009. Monteagudo was named the New York Daily News Coach of the Year in 2010 and is also involved with FC Westchester, which fields U16 and U18 U.S. Soccer Development Academy teams.

The Gaels return all but two starters from a team that completed the 2011 campaign with a record of 15-4-1, and finished second in the MAAC with a 7-2 record in the conference.
