The Iona College women's basketball is in the midst of a nine-day international trip to Canada for a quintet of games and scrimmages against teams from the Ontario province.  To keep fans up to date with the action, a different member, or members, of the team will be blogging a daily report on

This is junior guard Shonice Hawkins with today's blog entry.  After spending an amazing night at the Hope Lodge where we participated in many wild adventures we started our Saturday morning by waking up at 7:30 am for a great team breakfast.  Finally we were on our way to our next destination. We departed on a long four hour bus ride into Canada.  During those excruciating hours most people slept, including the coaches, while others were trying to use their phones as much as they can until their service went out before crossing the border. Trying to get rest on the bus was a hassle because it was hard to find a comfortable position. I stayed awake the whole time. Once we reached the hotel and everyone saw Niagara Falls no one seemed to be sleepy anymore.

Once reaching the hotel I didn't expect it to look the way it did. I imagined a lot of deserted grasslands and farms, but when I saw the Falls I was excited. Losing service was stressful for everyone especially Damika Martinez. She went nuts! Making sure she had service, she bought a prepaid phone to stay connected to her social life. Our first workout since leaving campus was pretty interesting.  We did an dynamic warmup in the back of the hotel, then ran the stairs, and finished the workout with an 15 minute cardio workout in the hotel gym on either on a treadmill, elliptical or bike. Afterwards the team stayed and lifted upper body with the dumbells. Everyone went out for dinner at an Italian restaurant. After dinner we had some free time to walk around the local area and anything else we desired. I'm looking forward to see what the days ahead have in stores for the Iona women's basketball team and family!
