CHESTNUT HILL, MA – The Iona College men’s and women’s swimming and diving program completed the Day One of the New England Catholic Invite and finished with three top-three performers.
Junior Justin Grigull took first in the men’s 100-Free with an impressive time of 48.00.
Freshman Scott Martin placed third in the men’s 1,000-Free with a time of 10:20.47. Senior Zachary Benoit picked up an eighth place finish at 10:47.52. Classmate Victoria Ponzo finished eighth in the 1,000-Free at 11:17.92.
Senior Chris Yacobacci finished fourth in the men’s 200-IM at 2:01.52, with freshmen Vincent DiNapoli and Brandon Hadhazy finishing ninth and tenth, respectively.
In the women’s 400-yard Medley Relay, juniors Maria Skeivys, Kerri-Anne Dodenhoff, Bridget Doughty, and freshman Mary Ellen Mangione finished in fourth place with a time of 4:09.13. In the men’s Medley Relay, junior Tyler Elfert along with Hadhazy, Yacobacci and Grigull finished in third with a time of 3:38.97 just ahead of hosts Boston College.
Freshman Leigh Mussleman took fourth in the women’s 200-IM at 2:16.13 and Mangione finished in sixth at 2:17.51.
The men’s 200-Free squad finished in sixth place and the women’s squad finished in seventh.
The Gaels will complete the New England Catholic Invite on Saturday afternoon.
