Iona College softball head coach Melissa Inouye has put together various winter clinics for all those looking to learn with the Maroon & Gold Program.
On, Sunday, Jan. 22, the Gaels are hosting a catching clinic from 9 AM till 12 PM. The three-hour session will offer a lot of drills and instructions on throwing, receiving, framing, blocking and more. First year assistant coach Katie Jansson will play a large part in the clinic having been the starting catcher during Iona's MAAC Championship runs in 2011, 2012, and 2014.
On Sunday, Jan. 29, up to 30 participants will get focus and knowledge on the techniques of throwing, fielding, and more as part of the infield skills clinic. The clinic runs from 9 AM till 12 PM and takes place in Mulcahy Gymnasium.
On Sunday, Feb. 5, coach Inouye and the staff welcome pitchers from seventh to 11th grade to take part in the three-hour clinic. The coaches will offer drills and instructions on pitching mechanics, covers the breakdown of advancing pitches, and introduce advanced pitching drills. There is a limit of 18 participants and it is required to bring your own catcher.
On Sunday, Feb. 12, the Maroon & Gold are hosting a hitting clinic in the Hynes Athletics Center from 10 AM till 1 PM. The instructions include focusing on offensive fundamentals, specifically upper and lower body tee hitting drills. There is a limit of 36 participants.
For young aspiring pitchers from grades three through six, there is a youth pitching clinic on Sunday, Feb. 26. There are two sessions, each of which is the same format. The two-hour session will offer drills and instruction on the fundamental pitching mechanics, specifically fastball locations and change ups.
