BRONX, NY – The Iona College men’s swimming and diving team fell to local rival Fordham, 134-76, on Friday evening at the Messmore aquatic Center.
The Gaels took three first place finishes in the meet, winning the 500-free, 100-breast and 200-free relay.
Junior Justin Grigull won the 500-free in 4:51.95 and was part of two second place finishes in the 200-medley relay and 1,000-free.
Senior Chris Yacobacci took the 100-breast in 58.73, almost four seconds ahead of junior Chris Giovine. Yacobacci also placed second in the 200-medley relay with Grigull, senior Michael Wu and freshman Vincent DiNapoli. He also finished third in the 200-IM.
The third Iona win came in the 200-free relay with the relay team of senior Joseph De Leone, juniors Lee Stiles, Ryan Bacci and freshman Scott Martin finishing the race in 1:31.99. The Iona “B” relay team finished in second in 1:35.62, consisting of senior Zach Benoit, juniors Nick Kotonias and Denis O’Connor and freshman Tommy Keefe.
The Gaels will return to the Hynes Athletics Center on Tuesday for a MAAC meet with Saint Peter’s at 5 p.m.
