PRINCETON, NJ - The Iona College men's and women's outdoor track team competed at the 2013 IC4A and ECAC Championships held at Princeton University. Senior Matt Bayley was the Gaels' top performer, finishing fifth overall in the 3,000-meter steeple chase event.
Bayley finished both fifth in the second heat and in the overall event standings. He ran a personal best time and the fifth fastest 3k steeple chase in school history. Bayley's time of 8:53.61 was four seconds behind the race winner, Liberty's Josh McDonald. BYU's Steve Flint and a pair of Georgetown harriers, Dylan Sorenson and Ryan Gill, finished ahead of Bayley.
Senior Craig Murphy and sophomore Ethan Heywood competed in the 5,000-meter run. Murphy was fourth in the first heat and was 14th overall with a time of 14:35.15. Heywood was 16th in his heat and 29th overall (15:06.82).
On the women's side, senior Nicole Cochran was the Gaels' lone competitor. She ran in the 1,500-meter preliminaries and finished 19th overall with a time of 4:33.98. Villanova's Kelsey Margey was the top performer in the preliminary round.
