Shaver Tabbed To Lead Strength & Conditioning

NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Iona College Director of Athletics Rick Cole announced the appointment of Kelly Shaver as head strength and conditioning coach. Shaver previously served as the assistant strength and conditioning coach for four years at Fordham University.

At Fordham, Shaver was responsible for the development and supervision of seven of the school’s 22 athletics programs. Shaver designed workout cycles and assisted with practice and game-day tasks for football and men’s basketball. He was also in charge of the development of the incoming freshman football introductory phase strength and conditioning program and collaborated with athletics trainers regarding the rehabilitation of injured student athletes.

Prior to Fordham, Shaver served as Assistant Sports Performance Director at Velocity Sports Performance in Manhattan for three years. There, he coached athletes of all-ages, specifically high school, college, and professionals and severed as strength coach for the 2008 Beijing Olympics Silver Medalist Men’s Saber Team.

Shaver graduated magna cum laude in 2007 from Georgia Southern University with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Exercise Science. As a student, he served as a strength and condition coach intern, where he worked with 450 athletes on all 15 Division I varsity teams. He was assigned to the women’s cross country and track strength programs and assisted in conducting warm-ups, conditioning sessions, and teaching proper lifting techniques for football as an intern. He also conducted research and data collection in the Human Performance Lab on anaerobic power and lactate thresholds, cortisol response and overtraining syndrome, and heat illness in football players.

Shaver is a certified NSCA strength and conditioning specialist, USA Weightlifting sports performance coach, NASE Speed and explosion specialist, and is certified in CPR and AED.
