LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ - The Iona College women's soccer team dropped its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference contest of the season with a 3-1 decision to Rider Saturday afternoon on the road at Ben Cohen Field.
Rider's Jennifer Meier was the credited with all three tallies in the contest. In the third minute, Meier took a pass and scored from 18 yards out to give the Broncs a 1-0 lead.
Meier then connected on an unassisted goal in the 29th minute to give Rider a 2-0 advantage before picking up the final tally in the 53rd minute.
The Gaels were outshot in the contest 12-6, including a 4-2 margin on attempts shots on goal. Junior Melissa Frederick registered a team high three shots for the Maroon & Gold.
Iona goalkeeper Trista Rivera made one save in 63:42 minutes of play. Senior Jacquelyn Gates manned the Iona net for the final 26:18 of action. Rider goalkeepers Bethany-May Howard and Vanessa Perdomo each made one stop in a half of play.
Iona remains on the road for its next contest, set for Wednesday at 7:00 pm against Fairfield.
