VB Falls To First Place Manhattan In Five Sets

RIVERDALE, NY - The Iona College volleyball team fell in five sets at Manhattan Saturday afternoon. It was the Gaels third five-set defeat in MAAC play this season and second which they out pointed their opponent.  The Jaspers won the match 25-21, 27-29, 29-27, 14-25, 15-9.

Junior OH Catrina Warren had 19 kills to lead three Iona performers with double-digit kills. She added 22 digs to complete a double-double. Senior OH Alicja Pawelec and junior RS Taylor Cembalisty also recorded double-double. They each posted 13 kills while Cembalisty had 15 digs and Pawelec had 10. Sophomore MB McKenzie Human recorded nine kills and seven blocks, sophomore setter Natalie Ziskin had her third straight match with more than 50 assists, setting a new career-high with 53. She had eight digs, four blocks and three kills in the effort. Senior libero Madisyn Spence led Iona with 26 digs while sophomore DS Katy Crouse chipped in 10.

Manhattan's Sydney Volovski's 26 kills and .434 hitting percentage led the home team. Libero Allie Yamashiro posted 31 digs while setter Todora Peric posted 48 assists.

The Gaels fall to 4-4 in MAAC play and are off Sunday, returning to action next Saturday when they host Rider on Homecoming at 3:00 pm.
