NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College women's basketball team cracked the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll for the first time this season, entering the poll with a ranking of 21 this week. The Gaels join Marist, ranked 15th, as the lone Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference representatives in the poll.
The Maroon & Gold are in the midst of a ten game winning streak, the longest in program history, and currently hold a mark of 11-2 on the season. Junior guard Damika Martinez leads the MAAC, and is fourth in the nation, with a scoring average of 25.6 points per game. Sophomore forward Joy Adams is the MAAC's leading rebounder with 13.5 boards per game, which is good for fourth best in the nation. Iona is the only program in the nation with a top five scorer and rebounder. Senior center Sabrina Jeridore is the nation's leader in blocked shots, with an average of 4.2 blocks per contest.
The Gaels are back in action Friday when they host Quinnipiac at 12:00 pm.
