NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Iona College baseball rising junior Max Bruckner and rising sophomore Bill Maier have been selected to appear in the 3rd annual Futures Collegiate Baseball League of New England All-Star Game this Thursday (Jul. 24) at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton, MA. The Gael pitching duo will be teammates on the East All-Star Squad. Bruckner will represent the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks while Maier has hurled this summer for the Brockton Rox.
Bruckner is 3-1 with a 2.00 ERA for the Sharks this summer. He has tossed 36.0 innings with 30 strikeouts while allowing just 32 hits. He is second on the team in wins behind MAAC rival Matt Quintana from Siena and has tossed the lone complete game for the squad. The Martha’s Vineyard squad stands two games behind the Brockton Rox in the standings through Sunday's matchups.
Maier has helped his team to a 23-17 overall mark through the first 40 games. He is 2-1 on the mound with a 1.72 ERA, appearing in 31.1 innings in eight contests with four game starts. He has recorded 16 strikeouts and a save for the Rox.
First pitch for the 2014 Futures Collegiate Baseball League of New England All-Star Game is slated for Thursday at 7:05 pm at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton, MA. Gates open at 3:30 for fans to come and watch the league's MLB Scout Day. A Homerun Derby will be held before the game starting at 6:30. Other pregame entertainment includes a free block party including a bouncy house, street performers, face painting, and a musical performance featuring the popular cover band Woot.
