Alana Evans - Softball

Over the past week, sophomore Alana Evans appeared in four games for Iona, the last of which was a no-hit effort on the road at Monmouth.  She finished the week with a 0.50 ERA, throwing 18 innings, striking out 20, and allowing just on earned run.

On Saturday, Apr. 15 at Monmouth, she threw her first collegiate no-hitter, going the distance (6.2 innings because a runner was caught leaving early) while striking out a season-high 10 batters.  She retired nine of the last 10 batters she faced in her dominant effort that saw the Gaels split against the Hawks.

It was Iona’s first no-hitter since 2010 when Sarah Jackson, Alyssa Maiese and Deanne Algeo combined to throw two no-hitters in a single day against then visiting Saint Peter's.

On Wednesday, Apr. 12 against St. John’s, Evans went six innings, allowing just one earned run on three hits and two walks.  She struck out five Red Storm batters.

Overall in MAAC play this week, Evans threw 11.2 shutout innings, earning two wins, bringing her season total to 11.
