KANSAS CITY, KS - The Iona College men's soccer team was acknowledged for its outstanding efforts in the classroom, as the squad was one of the Top 25 teams in the nation in team GPA, earning Team Academic Award recognition by the NSCAA for the second consecutive season.

"My staff and I have worked very diligently to bring future ambassadors to Iona," said head coach Fernando Barboto. "To once again finish in the Top 15 for the second year in a row is 'hard work' paying off."
The Gaels were one of 97 teams recognized by the NSCAA, ranking 14th overall in the nation with a team GPA of 3.36.  Along with Siena, the two teams were the lone representatives from the MAAC in the Top 25.  LIU Brooklyn's 3.47 GPA was tops in the nation.

Earlier this season, the Gaels placed a league-high 17 players on the MAAC All-Academic Team, recognizing student athletes who hold cumulative grade point averages of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.
