Iona College men's basketball senior Sean Armand is the Buffalo Wild Wings Student-Athlete of the Week after he was named both MAAC and ECAC Metro/Upstate Player of the Week for his performance in Iona's two league wins vs. Marist and at Fairfield last week. It is the second time in three weeks Armand took home the MAAC honor.
Armand led the Gaels to a 2-0 start to MAAC play by averaging 27.0 points, 5.0 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game in wins over Marist and Fairfield. Armand shot 56.3% (18-for-32) from the field and 50.0% (7-for-14) from beyond the arc for the Maroon & Gold.
He started the week with 26 points, four rebounds and three assists vs. Marist and connected on a season-high six of Iona's season-best 17 three-point field goals. Armand shot 60% from both the field and from long distance. In the win at Fairfield Sunday, the senior tri-captain posted a game-high 28 points with seven assists and five rebounds. After being held without a shot for the first 10 minutes of the game and without a point for the first 11:13, Armand was 9-for-17 from the field and 9-of-11 from the charity stripe. His seven assists was a season-high, while adding three steals, and a block while committing just one turnover over 40 minutes in the victory.
Armand has recorded a career-best four straight 20-point efforts, coinciding with Iona's four-game winning streak. Armand was also recognized by CollegeSportsMadness.com as its MAAC Player of the Week and national Mid-Major Player of the Week.
The Maroon & Gold is in action at home this week when they host the Atlantic 10's St. Bonaventure at the Hynes Center Saturday (Dec. 14) at 2:00 pm.
