STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Carly Argyle, Softball
Junior hurler Carly Argyle earns Iona's Player of the Week for her performance in the MAAC Tournament, as the Gaels claimed their sixth MAAC title . In four appearances, Argyle went 3-0, pitching to a 2.41 earned run average, and striking out 15 in 20.1 innings. At the plate, she batted 6-for-13 (.462) with six hits, four runs scored and two runs batted in. Argyle earned Tournament MVP honors.
In a Gaels 6-5 walk-off win vs. Manhattan in the opening game, Argyle came in relief, giving up five runs, and striking out five. Argyle also singled and scored a run in the contest.
Argyle rebounded in the next game, earning the win against Fairfield. The junior posted one hit, allowed no runs, and struck out three in 3.2 innings of relief work. In two pinch-hit appearances, Argyle went 2-for-2, with two RBI's and two runs scored.
Against Marist, Argyle shut down the Red Foxes, pitching 6.0 innings, while allowing four hits, two runs, and striking out four in the 6-2 victory. At the plate, she went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
In the championship game against the Jaspers, Argyle pitched a comple game one-hitter. In five innings, Argyle allowed three walks and recorded three punch-outs.
