Gerom Solis - Men's Outdoor Track & Field

Gerom Solis of the Iona College men's outdoor track & field program had a near perfect start to the spring season at the Stony Brook season opener.  The rookie led the Gaels with a first place finish in the 200-meter at 23.01, and a second place finish in the 100-meter event at 11.41.  His gold place finish in the 200m was the first win of his collegiate career.

His efforts were part of an overall successful season kickoff for the Maroon & Gold.  Iona also put forth a pair of 1-2 finishes in the 1,500 and 3,000-meter races. Senior Andrew Tario earned his first collegiate career victory with an 8:20.63 finish in the 3,000 meter. Tario finished just ahead of teammate junior Gilbert Kirui at 8:20.71. In the 1,500 meter, senior Johannes Motschmann finished less than a second ahead of sophomore Jac Hopkins with respective times of 3:58.95 and 3:59.52.

Iona returns to the track on Friday Mar. 31.  The program will dvide its talents at the San Francisco State Distance Festival/Multi Duals in San Francisco, CA, and the Standford Invitational/Multi Duals in Stanford, CA.
