Katie Newton - Softball

Senior Katie Newton had stellar week for the Iona College softball program.  She batted. 467 as the Gaels won three crucial conference games, moving themselves into a tie for first place in the MAAC standings.

On Wednesday, Apr. 19 against Stony Brook, the senior shortstop had one in the Maroon & Gold's final non-conference game.

She picked it up on Saturday, Apr. 22 against Quinnipiac.  Newton went a combined 2-for-5, recording two extra base hits while driving in four homeruns.  She hit her second homerun to help catalyze an 8-0 game one win.

On Sunday, Apr. 23 versus Fairfield, Newton went a 4-for-6 at the plate, scoring one run and recording one RBI.  The Gaels swept the Stags in dramatic fashion, improving their record to 10-4 in the MAAC.

Iona travels to Rider on Wednesday, Apr. 26 for two before making a trip to Jersey City, NJ on Sunday in its final road contest.  Newton, along with her senior teammates, will be honored on Saturday, May 7 as part of senior day when the Manhattan Jaspers visit Donald E. Walsh Field.
