Kristen Turner - Softball

Senior first basemen Kristen Turner left her mark on the Iona College softball record book once again this past week.  On Wednesday, Apr. 26 against Rider, Turner surpassed Darleen Anderson ('95) as the all-time leader in career doubles.  The three-time All-MAAC First Team honoree now has 41 career two-baggers.

Against the Broncs in a mid-week MAAC battle, Turner collcted two hits, one run scored and two runs batted in during the Maroon & Gold's 7-0 game one win.  Come game two, the Turnersville, NJ native collected another hit and one RBI.

The offensive domiance Turner has shown throughout her entire career was ampliphied on Sunday, Apr. 30 against Saint Peter's.  Iona won game one against the Peacocks 11-1 in five innings courtesy of two long homeruns for the Maroon & Gold's all-time round-tripper leader.  With her two homeruns, Turner has successful hit double-digit homeruns in all four of her years as a Gael.  She finished with six RBI, three runs scored, and one walk.

In game two, Turner went 1-for-2 with one run scored and two walks.  The picked up the power mantel, bashing a program record six homeruns in the game; junior catcher Tori Danner and sophomore third basemen Kimberly Chiapparelli each hit two while senior centerfielder Kelsey Long and freshman designated player Jasmine Temple hit one each.  Iona extended its MAAC wining streak to six games, and will look to continue its momentum on Sunday, May 7 when rival Manhattan visitis Donald E. Walsh Field.

Sunday's game against the Jaspers will also be senior day.  Head coach Melissa Inouye and her staff will honor the careers of Turner, Long, Katie Newton, Ashlyn Morris, and Lauren Filardi prior to the start of the double header.
