On Saturday, September 20th, the men and women’s rowing team spent the day cleaning up Glen Island Park. Glen Island Park is the home outdoor practice facility for Iona College Rowing. The team has been practicing and racing there for many years and made several memories since the organization began rowing out of the Castle at Glen Island in 1960.
As a tradition within the boathouse, the teams cleaned up what it calls their ‘second home’. The men’s and women’s teams collected many bags of garbage after participating in this year’s clean up. This is a service project that the team partakes in annually to help keep its home course clean for spectators and members of the community as well as doing their part to keep the environment clean. The team enjoyed being active members in the community and as a result helped make a difference at Glen Island. This was also a great opportunity to bond with the new novices on the team. The Iona Rowing team will race at Glen Island on November 8th, 2008 at the annual Fall Metropolitan Regatta.
