NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College men's rowing team hosted the Fall Metropolitan Regatta/Grimaldi Cup at Orchard Beach Lagoon.  Iona finished second in the overall team scores while Fordham took the top spot.

The Gaels posted a strong second place finish in the Varsity 8, crossing behind Fordham in 5:15.  "The Men's Eight raced a solid race, even though the event had to be restarted due to interference," said head coach Thomas Scifres. 

"We were really worried about Army as we have not seen them this fall and their results have been very solid.  We were happy to come out ahead of Army and Lehigh."

The Maroon & Gold finished third in the first heat of the Varsity 4 with a time of 7:53, while the second heat entry was second in 8:00.  Iona's Varsity 2 pulled a 9:24 to take fourth place in that event.  The Gaels' lone novice entry picked up a fourth place finish in the second heat of the Novice 4.

Next on the schedule is the Dowling Alumni Cup Regatta, being held on Nov. 7.
