IONA FALLS TO PIRATES

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - The Iona College women's swimming and diving team fell to Seton Hall Tuesday evening. The Gaels picked up 102 points but were unable to match the Pirates' 127 point tally. In one-meter diving, freshman Briana Gongloff made her Iona debut and broke the school record with a 235.05 total for the Gaels. In three-meter, Gongloff's 205.28 was good for second all-time. Gongloff's score qualfies her for the ECAC Championships in Pittsburgh.

In the opening event of the evening, the 200 yd medley relay, the Iona A relay of Brittany Freeman, Jamie Manser, Samantha Cody and Theresa Harvey picked up a second place finish with a time of 1:55.01. The Iona B relay of Kellie Mark, Sarah Walker, Christine Williams and Megan McNeely finished fourth with a time of 2:02.32.

The Gaels repeated second and fourth place finishes in the next event, the 1000 yd freestyle. Christine Larkin was the Gaels' top finisher with a time of 11:04.75, while McNeely finished fourth with a time of 11:36.50. Mark recorded a time of 11:56.44 to round out the Iona finishers in fifth place.

The Gaels picked up their first event win of the evening when Mackenzie Mone took first in the 200 yd free with a time of 1:59.13. Caitlin McGregor's third place finish of 2:03.37 and Cody's 2:04.66 help secure three of the top four spots for Iona.

Harvey made it two in a row for the Gaels when she won the 50 yd free with a time of 24.80. Manser's 27.34 ranked fourth while Walker took fifth with a time of 27.47.

In the 400 yd IM, Victoria Ponzo's 4:53.52 was good for a third place finish. Kara Nowakowski was just behind Ponzo in fourth, finishing with a time of 4:56.85. Willaims was sixth with a time of 5:03.38.

Cody took third in the next event, the 200 yd fly. Cody finished with a time of 1:02.38 while Nowakowski (1:04.67) and Williams (1:06.32) were fourth and fifth respectively.

Harvey took her second event of the evening in the 100 yd freestyle with a time of 53.63. Mone's 56.10 was good for third while McGregor was fifth with a time of 58.03. Harvey's performances in the 50 and 100 this season have also earned her an ECAC invitation.

In the 100 yd Backstroke, Freeman was just behind a Seton Hall swimmer and took second with a time of 1:04.47. McNeely was fifth with a 1:06.62 while Mark was seventh with a 1:10.46.

Ponzo took second in the 500 yd fresstyle with a time of 5:21.36. Nowakoski finished third in 5:24.43 while Larkin took fifth with a time of 5:26.22.

In the 100 yard breaststroke, Manser's 1:09.12 was good for first while Walker came in second with a time of 1:13.46.

In the final event of the meet, the 200 yd freestyle relay, the Iona squad of Mone, Ponzo, McGregor and Larkin posted a 1:47.08 to take first for the Gaels.

The Gaels return to the water Nov. 20 when they take on Manhattan, beginning at 6:30 pm.
