EDISON, NJ - Iona College junior Allison Nieters was named the MAAC's Defensive Player of the Week for her performance in the Gaels' wins at Saint Peter's and Marist this weekend.  Nieters earned the honor for the second time this season and the 12th time in her career that she earned the honor.

Nieters continued her torrid defensive streak with 41 digs in seven sets (5.86/set) and a perfect 33-for-33 of serve receptions in the Gaels' two wins.  At Saint Peter's on Saturday, Nieters recorded 27 digs, four shy of a school record for a three-set match.  She currently is six digs shy of becoming the second player in MAAC history to record 2,000 digs (Jess Stackhouse, Canisius, 2,095)

The Gaels are back in action this weekend with a road contest at Manhattan on Saturday (Nov. 7) morning before returning home to play Rider at home on Sunday.
