NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Iona College junior volleyball libero Allison Nieters was named to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team, it was announced today. Nieters becomes the third Gael this fall to be recognized with the honor.

Nieters has appeared in every set of every match in her nearly three seasons with the Gaels thus far. She has established herself as arguably the top defensive player in school history and on path to accomplish the same in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The third-year libero stands six digs shy of becoming the second player in MAAC history to record 2,000 digs. The conference record is 2,095 and held by Canisius graduate Jess Stackhouse.

In the classroom, Nieters is a Mass Communications major with a 3.58 GPA.

To be nominated for an Academic All-District team, a student-athlete must maintain a 3.30 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key reserve on their team.
