On Sunday, October 4, 2009 the Iona Colleges Men and Women's Cross-Country and Track Team volunteered at the "Paine to Paine' half marathon. This historical half marathon began outside Thomas Paine's cottage and ended by the New Rochelle High school Track. The course is a 13 mile loop run mostly on scenic trails that follow the colonial greenway path and goes through several Westchester communities, New Rochelle, Mamaroneck, Scarsdale and Eastchester.
Members of the men's and women's teams were spread out at numerous stations on the course to assist the participants on their journey by marshalling and being supportive. There were also a few student-athletes stationed at the water stop that was located at the half way mark. The team served water to the runners to help rehydrate them for the second part of the 13 mile race. At the conclusion of the race, the team helped to gather up all the garbage by the water station and made sure there was no litter left behind. Iona Colleges Men's and Women's Cross-Country and Track Team enjoyed volunteering at this event.
