GAELS WALK TO CURE DIABETES
On October 18, 2009, the Iona College Baseball and Golf teams participated in the 2009 Walk to Cure Diabetes. The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation walk took place at White Plains High School in White Plains New York. As many as 3 million Americans have Type 1 diabetes, a disease most often diagnosed in childhood that strikes suddenly, lasts a lifetime and carries the constant threat of deadly complications including heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney failure, and amputation.
The Walk draws people together in a healthy activity for a worthy cause, raising money to help find a cure for diabetes. It's fun for families and builds camaraderie amongst teams. Thanks to dramatic research progress, a cure is now within reach. This year alone walkers are expected to raise nearly $21 million nationwide for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The Iona College Baseball and Golf teams were happy to take part in such a wonderful cause.
