The Iona College swimming and diving team has been recognized by the nation’s oldest coaching association, the College Swim Coaches Association of America (www.cscaa.org) for the squad’s academic excellence this past spring semester.
Coach Nick Cavataro’s women’s squad posted a 3.54 team GPA, which was the seventh best in the nation and the highest among Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference schools listed. Ball State was the top team at 3.60.
On the men’s side, the team’s 3.22 ranked seventeenth and was also the highest of any MAAC school ranked. The University of Denver topped the list at 3.44.
“This is our tenth semester in a row in the rankings for both teams and that is something we are very proud of. Academic excellence is always the number one goal of our team,” commented Cavataro. “Anytime you are on a list with elite institutions like Brown, Northwestern and Harvard on the women’s side and Bucknell, Michigan and Duke on the men’s list, it is a great thing.”
