On Saturday, September 10, 2011 players from Iona College men’s water polo team served as volunteers at the Toughman Triathlon for the second year in a row. Gaels head coach Brian Kelly, participated in the Toughman challenge for the second year in a row, completing a 1.2 mile swim, a 13.1 mile run, and a 56 mile bike ride in six hours and seven minutes.
The team arrived to the event around 6:00 am when the sky was still dark. They helped the Toughman volunteer crew set-up the event and they stuck around to the end of the race to assist with the clean-up. The team also served as life guards assisting the swim participants with getting into and out of the water during the Toughman triathlon. In addition, they assisted with the distribution of food and water to participants, volunteers, and community supporters. All volunteers had an amazing time helping out with the event.
