NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Iona College Director of Athletics Eugene Marshall, Jr. is proud to announce the 2012 Iona College Goal Club Hall of Fame Inductees. Laura Koch '98, Steve Burtt '06, JoAnn Mazzella Murphy '98H, and David J. McCabe '80 will be honored at the Goal Club's Annual Hall of Fame Golf Outing on Monday, Jun. 4, 2012 at Wykagyl Country Club.
Laura Koch '98 was one of the most decorated female swimmers in Iona College women's swimming and diving history. At the time of her graduation, she held nine individual school records and was a part of all five relay record-holding teams. She was also a member of the women's water polo team ('95, '96, '98, '99) and helped Iona win its first ever championship in 1999.
Steve Burtt '06 is one of the most prolific scorers in Iona College men's basketball history. Burtt is currently second all-time in scoring behind none other than his father. The Burtts hold the NCAA record for most points scored by a father and son combo with 4,568. Burtt is only one of two Iona basketball players to eclipse the 2,000-point mark.
JoAnn Mazella Murphy '98H is a Legal Trustee of Iona College and a Vice-Chair of Country Bank. She has generously given her time and resources towards the enrichment of the institution and its athletic programs.
David J. McCabe '80 is a Legal Trustee of Iona College and a senior partner at Willkie, Farr & Gallagher LLP. He has been a strong advocate of women's sports and Title IX for Iona College Athletics. David's generosity and support has been critical to the development of Iona College and the success of its athletic programs.
In addition to this year's Hall of Fame Inductees, Iona College Athletics is once again proud to announce the inclusion of the Donald E. Walsh '66 Award to the Goal Club Hall of Fame Golf Outing. We are honored to announce that this year's award will be presented to the "Iona 5'ers" - Bill Aitchison '61, Terry McCormack '67, Frank McGuire '55, Don Short '59, Joe Tighe '60 and Ray Coyne '54. This award is in recognition of the ongoing support and contributions that this group of distinguished alumni instituted more than forty years ago. Their vision led to the foundation of the Goal Club, which continues to foster the advancement of Iona College Athletics year after year.
