LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ - Seventeen members of the Iona College men's and women's outdoor track and field programs were recognized on the MAAC All-Academic teams after obtaining a 3.20 grade point average or higher, announced at this weekend's MAAC Championships.
The Most Outstanding Performer of the outdoor championships, senior Alexander Soderberg led eight Iona men's harriers on the list. Graduate students Ben Lindsay and Mitch Goose will both earn Master's Degrees in management and public relations, respectively. Soderberg, a member of the class of 2012 along with Daniel Lipus will earn degrees in chemistry and environmental science. Junior Craig Murphy is joined by sophomores Ronan Callagy, Brendan Farrell, and Reed Kochanek as runners who will return next season.
The Iona women were led by senior Jenny Kurz who finished with the highest GPA in the conference (4.00) will graduate with a degree in International Business. Kurz is joined by fellow classmates Heidi Gregson and Teegan Schoch, juniors Chelsea Hanson and Marion Joly-Testault. Four underclassmen were included on the list for Iona as sophomores Shannon Christie, Tara Jameson, Katie Niblock and Courtney Veilleux rounded out the Iona list.
A total of 82 female athletes comprise the 2012 MAAC Women’s Outdoor Track All-Academic Team, with Marist leading all schools with 21 members named to the team. Rider and Saint Peter’s both added 17 student-athletes, and Loyola had 13 representatives. Manhattan rounded out the team with five athletes.
Sixty total male athletes comprised the 2012 MAAC Men’s Outdoor Track All-Academic Team. Marist led all schools with 26 members named to the team. Manhattan and Rider both had 12 representatives on the squad. Saint Peter’s rounded out the team with two athletes.
