NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Iona College men's basketball assistant coach Mark Calzonetti has announced his resignation and has accepted a position at Long Island University Brooklyn. Calzonetti served as an assistant in the program for two seasons and will be the No. 1 assistant for the Blackbirds under new head man Jack Perri.

"As a friend of Mark's for more than 30 years, I'm delighted for his new opportunity," said Iona head coach Tim Cluess. "On the other hand, it's bittersweet in that we're sad to see a terrific coach go."

Under the direction of Cluess, Calzonetti helped mentor the Gaels to a 50-20 record, the second-best two-season win total in the 70+ history of the program. Calzonetti played a key role in all facets of the Iona program including recruiting, advance scouting, practice and game planning. He coached four all conference performers in two seasons including graduates Mike Glover, Scott Machado and Kyle Smyth and rising senior Lamont Jones. Glover, Jones, Machado were also All-Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) selections. The Gaels earned the MAAC regular season championship in 2012, posting a 15-3 conference mark to match the program record for MAAC victories.
