Softball Volunteers At Susan G. Koman Race In NYC

On Saturday September 9, members of the Iona College softball team volunteered at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Central Park.
The team manned the final Gatorade drink stop en route to the finish line of the 5K race. The operation included setting up, making Gatorade, distributing cups to runners/walkers and cleaning up after the race was complete.
The Komen Race for the Cure raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship, and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease. Up to 75 percent of the net income from the race stays in the local community to fund breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment projects while a minimum of 25 percent of the net income from each domestic Affiliate Race supports the Komen for the Cure Award and Research Grant Programs, which fund groundbreaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards and educational and scientific conferences around the world.
