NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Nine members of the Iona College softball team were among thousands of student-athletes representing almost 600 different academic institutions have been tabbed as 2012 NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes.

Seniors Cari Anderson, Eileen McCann and Jodi Petersen were named Scholar Athletes along with junior Katie Jansson and sophomore Brianna Schauer.  Graduates Deanne Algeo, Melanie Hay, Allyssa James and Chelsea Sheehan were also recognized.

The award is bestowed upon any player who achieved a 3.50 grade point average or higher during the 2011-12 academic year.  The honor marks the second component of the Association’s academic award program.  Earlier this season, the Gaels ranked 18th in the nation in team GPA, earning All-Academic Team honors.
