NEW ROCHELLE, NY - On the heels of another successful Iona College men's soccer campaign, senior Ansger Otto has been invited to the combine this weekend for the San Jose Earthquakes of Major League Soccer as the forward looks to make a name for himself in the nation's highest professional soccer league.
In just two seasons with the Gaels, Otto found the net an impressive 14 times in 38 career games, leading the squad in tallies each of the past two years. Otto attempted 114 shots for the Gaels, including 52 on goal and finished with 33 career points.
In 2012, Otto earned All-MAAC Second Team honors after finishing in the Top 10 in several offensive categories including shots, points, goals and goals per game and earned MAAC Player of the Week honors on October 22. In 2011, Otto was a All-MAAC First Team selection after leading an Iona offense that finished 20th in the nation scoring offense and 25th in total goals scored.
Originally the San Jose Clash, the club is one of the ten charter members of the MLS, having competed during the inaugrual season of 1996, and have won MLS Cup titles in 2001 and 2003.
