WWP Opens Season With Split At Harvard

CAMBRIDGE, MA - The Iona College women's water polo team opened its 2013 regular season Saturday with a pair of contests at the Harvard Invitational.  In the opener agains the host Crimson, Iona fell by a score of 15-13.  In their second matchup of the day, the Gaels defeated Villanova 12-2.  

Against Harvard, Iona was led by senior Alyssa Turza, who scored eight goals.  Junior Amy Olsen notched three tallies while classmate Erika Lauraitis had two scores.  Against the Wildcats, Olsen and Lauraitis and junior Sarah Hanly all netter a pair of goals.  Junior Hannah Cross had one goal as did freshmen Taylor Silva, Megan Mahoney, Dana Andrea and Rebecca Mathews.

Additionally, in a pair of exhibition matchups against club teams, Iona came away with two more victories, defeating CAMO 14-10 and Boston University 12-2.

Iona is back in action Saturday, Feb. 16 at the St. Francis Invitational in Brooklyn, NY.
