NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College men's basketball team was selected to play against Indiana State in the 2013 ESPN Ramada Bracketbusters event on Feb. 23 at 11:00 am on ESPNU. The Gaels will be a participant in the Bracketbusters event for the fourth straight season.
Indiana State holds a 14-9 overall mark and is 7-4 conference play. The formidable Missouri Valley Conference foe boasts wins over current No. 8/11 Miami (Fla.) and RV/23 Ole Miss this season.
With no seniors on the roster, junior point guard Jake Odum leads the squad with at 13.9 ppg and 4.4 apg. He is one of the more prolific free throw shooters in the country with his 130 makes ranking No. 7 in the NCAA. Junior wing Manny Arop is the No. 2 scorer and rebounder at 12.9 ppg and 5.0 rpg. Sophomore center Justin Gant is the team's leading rebounder (5.1 rpg) while junior guard Lucas Ettel is the team’s leading deep threat with 28 three-pointers made.
Iona and Indiana State meet for the first time in history. It is the Gaels first Missouri Valley opponent since a win over Creighton at the 2009 Old Spice Classic on Nov. 28 at Walt Disney World.
The last three seasons, the Maroon & Gold earned TV match ups vs. William and Mary (2010), at Liberty (2011) and vs. Nevada (2012). It will be the fifth time in nine eight Iona appeared on the ESPN family of networks for the Bracketbusters event. The Gaels are 4-0 in the TV games and 5-2 overall.
Iona is one of three teams to earn a fourth straight Bracketbusters selection joining Northern Iowa and Wichita State.
The Gaels have four MAAC games prior to traveling to Terre Haute, IN: Marist (Feb. 7) and Rider (Feb. 9) at the Hynes Center and on the road at Manhattan (Feb. 15) and Fairfield (Feb. 18).
