NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Sophomore guard Damika Martinez scored 31 points and was one of three players in double figures as the Iona College women's basketball team set aside Rider 88-58 Saturday afternoon at the Hynes Center.

The Gaels would score the next eight points of the game, as Iona took a 10-2 lead on a fast break layup by Adams with 14:12 left in the period. The Gaels would not reign in their red hot shooting, as Iona took a 17-6 lead on a layup by Martinez with 12:26 remainining in the first.
With the Gaels ahead 29-6 with 8:29 remaining in the first, the two squads traded baskets before a three pointer by senior guard Diana Hubbard gave Iona a 46-15 lead with 3:02 left in the half. Rider would outscore Iona 5-3 over the remainder of the half, but still found itself trailing 49-20 at halftime.
Rider would come out for the second half with a plan to get the offense going inside, as forward Cailtin Bopp scored eight early points in the period, and helped the Broncs trimmed the lead to 24, 57-33, with 15:35 remaining in the contest.
Adams would score the next six points of the game, as Iona strengthened its hold on the lead, 63-33, with 13:12 remaining. With the outcome settled by that point, the Gaels were able to take a game high lead of 32 points, 79-47, on a jumper by freshman Jordan Henry with 6:37 left in the game before matching it on a layup by Jeridore with 6:17 remaining.

Iona is back in action Thursday, when they visit Jersey City for a 7:00 pm matchup with Saint Peter's.
