BUFFALO, NY – The Iona College women’s swimming and diving team completed the 2013 MAC Championship in sixth place with 336 points.
In the final day of competition, the Gaels added a Silver Medal and a new school record in the 200-Fly along with personal bests and ECAC “A” and “B” qualifiers.
In the 1650-Free, senior Kara Nowakowski qualified for the ECAC “B” at 18:01.78, finishing in 13th place eight second faster than her seed.
In the 100-Free, four Gaels set new bests with senior Theresa Harvey finishing in seventh at 52.84 (ECAC “A”), junior Kerri-Anne Dodenhoff finished 10th at 53.34 (ECAC “A”), junior Brigitte Doughty clocked in at 53.88 for 13th (ECAC “A”) and freshman Melissa Dorsch in 14th at 53.92 (ECAC “A”).
Freshman Mary Ellen Mangione won the Bronze Medal in the 200-Breast, with a best 2:32.41 (ECAC “A”). Classmate Cassidy O’Connell finished in 11th at 2:31.60 (ECAC “B”).
Senior Victoria Ponzo set the Iona record in the 200-Fly, with a 2:09.17 for 11th place (ECAC “A”).
In the final event of the championship, the 400-Free relay foursome of Doughty, Dodenhoff, Dorsch and Harvey won the Silver Medal in 3:31.26 (ECAC “A”), two seconds behind the school record set last year at MAAC’s.
