EDISON, NJ - Iona College softball freshman Sarah Schutz has been named MAAC Player of the Week after helping the Maroon & Gold to two conference wins this weekend. Schutz collected six hits this week for the Gaels, including four for extra bases, resulting in a team leading three home runs and nine runs batted in.

Schutz went 3-8 over two games in a doubleheader at Hartford, including a 2-3, three RBI performance in game one, where she connected on her third home run of the season. In game two, Schutz went yard again, this time driving in two in the contest. Schutz had an RBI in the Gaels' game two victory over Siena on Saturday, before two hits against Manhattan in the game one of the doubleheader. Schutz went 2-4 in the contest, connecting on a solo home run, her fifth of the season and fourth in the last seven games, before pushing across a go-ahead two run ground rule double later in the contest.

Iona is back in action Saturday, when they take on St. John's in a single non-conference contest (12:00 pm).
