NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Stony Brook used seven-run ninth inning to seal a 12-3 win over the Iona College baseball team in non-conference action at City Park. The Gaels pounded out 11 hits but could only plate three in the loss.
Senior SS Matthew Kriss plated the game’s first run in the bottom of the first inning on a sacrifice fly that scored Torres.
Stony Brook knotted the game at 1-1 in the third and took a 3-1 lead in the fifth inning. DeMaria's RBI single to leftfield scored Smith from third base in the sixth inning as the Maroon & Gold halved its deficit.
The Seawolves scored twice more in the seventh, but Iona got a run back in the bottom of the frame on Sand's run scoring double.
Iona used seven pitchers in the game. Rookie LHP Andrew Pucillo took the loss after allowing the go-ahead runs in the fifth inning.
Stony Brook was led by a 3-for-3, two run, two RBI effort from 2B Brett Tenuto. Third baseman Johnny Caputo also had two hits while scoring twice and driving in three runs.
