McCormick Named MAAC Lacrosse Rookie of The Year

EDISON, NJ –  Iona College lacrosse freshman Mary Kate McCormick was named the 2013 MAAC Rookie of the Year at the MAAC Championship banquet on Thursday evening at Marist College.

McCormick finished second on the team with 33 points, hitting the back of the net 20 times and assisting on 13 goals. McCormick was also named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team, after being named the MAAC Rookie of the Week on April 15.

Senior Kylie Gregory and junior Angela Grous were named All-MAAC Fist Team members after phenomenal play on attack and as a defensive player.  Gregory finished second in league scoring with 40 goals and third in points with 50.  The attacker also led the league in shots taken with 100 and was second in free-position markers with 11. Grous headlined a younger defensive core for Iona that caused 6.81 turnovers per game.

Sophomore Meghan Testoni and McCormick were also named to the All-MAAC Second Team. 

Seven other Gaels were named to the All-MAAC Academic Team, led by senior Brittney Mabus and juniors Nicole Brancaccio and Nina Veneziale. Rounding out the All-Academic honorees were sophomores Chandler Borrosh, Blaire NathansonMarisa Tomsky and Testoni.
