LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ - Two more individual MAAC titles for the Iona College men's outdoor track team highlighted Sunday's action at the 2013 MAAC Championships at Rider University.
Graduate students Mitch Goose and Daniel Clorley and freshman Kieran Clements finished 1-2-3 in the 1,500-meter run. Goose earned the MAAC Championship with his time of 3:48.60. Clorley crossed less than three seconds behind his teammate in 3:51.60 and Clements three seconds later (3:54.11). Sophomore Ethan Heywood finished ninth (4:03.75).
The Gaels also dominated the 5k event with graduate students Matthew Gillespie and Matt Bayley taking the top two spots. The Gaels had seven of the top 10 finishers in the race. Gillespie won the championship in 14:26.32. Bayley came in behind is teammate in 14:32.00. After Marist's William Griffin played third, senior Craig Murphy (14:53.23) and sophomores Andrew Kowalsky (14:54.12) and Michael O'Dowd (14:58.26) came in fourth fifth and sixth. Junior Quinn Raseman (15:08.05) and Nick Lachman (15:10.61) were ninth and 10th.
Junior Reed Kochanek earned sixth place points in the 800-meter event. Freshman Darien Edwards finished 10th.
Rider won the team championship. The Gaels were fourth overall. Iona competes in the IC4A Championship next weekend at Princeton.
