NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Three members of the Iona College women's outdoor track squad qualified for and will compete at the 2013 NCAA Championships East Preliminary Round at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, NC this weekend.
Senior Marion Joly-Testault is the highest ranked Gael on the women's side and will compete in the 10,000-meter semifinal. She ran a 34:32.40 at the 2013 Penn Relays on Apr. 29. It was the 26th fastest time in the East this year and the third fastest time in Iona history. The event is scheduled for Thursday (May 23) at 9:00 pm.
Junior Kirsten Stewart qualified for the 1500 meter preliminary round Thursday (May 23) evening at 5:30 pm. She ran a 4:22.05 at the Virginia Challenge on May 10, the seventh fastest time in Iona history and was ranked 32nd in the East this year. Should she advance, Stewart will compete in the 1500 quarterfinal Saturday at 6:30 pm.
Sophomore Regina Neumeyer will compete in the 3,000-meter steeple chase quarterfinal on Friday at 8:50 pm. Neumeyer qualified with her 10:29.47 at the Payton Jordan Invitational at Stanford University on Apr. 28. It was the second fastest time in school history with only her finish at last year's NCAA East Preliminary (10:17.75) standing ahead of it. It was the 33rd best time in the East region this spring.
The three harriers compete for the right to advance to the 2013 NCAA Championships at the University of Oregon from Jun. 5-8.
